Is lung cancer advanced once there is a pericardial effusion?

Lung cancer with pericardial effusion is not necessarily in advanced stage.
Pericardial effusion associated with lung cancer patients may be due to malignant pericardial effusion caused by metastasis of lung cancer cells to pericardium, or pericardial effusion caused by other reasons, and pericardiocentesis can be performed to check whether there are tumor cells in the pericardial effusion to differentiate the two.
1. No tumor cells are found in pericardial effusion: pericardial effusion may also occur in lung cancer patients after radiotherapy, combined with heart lesions or other pericardial diseases. If no lung cancer cells are found in pericardial effusion after repeated examinations, malignant pericardial effusion caused by metastasis of lung cancer cannot be diagnosed. Of course, whether the lung cancer is advanced or not needs to be judged by TNM staging.
2. Tumor cells are found in pericardial effusion: if lung cancer cells can be detected in pericardial effusion of lung cancer, it means that the lesion has been invaded, and the clinical stage of lung cancer is Stage IV, i.e., advanced stage, with relatively poor prognosis.
To clarify whether lung cancer is at an advanced stage, it is recommended to go to the hospital for medical examination in time.
