In most cases, pressure pain below the right thoracic rib cage may be caused by poor living and working habits, such as prolonged head down, prolonged sleeping on the stomach, prolonged working on computers, cell phones and desk jobs, which may lead to repeated strain and local compression of the local soft tissues below the right thoracic rib cage, thus causing local congestion and edema and the formation of sterile inflammation. The inflammatory fluid exudes and stimulates the nerve endings around the ribs, resulting in pain on pressure under the right thoracic rib cage. This pain is likely to be more pronounced in the case of cold and repeated rotation of the chest. Localized septic infections such as septic pleurisy and abscess thorax can stimulate the local soft tissues and nerves below the rib cage and cause significant pain when pressed. Tumor disease of the ribs can lead to destruction of the ribs and also of the surrounding soft tissues, resulting in changes in local pressure and significant pain on compression.
