How is glaucoma diagnosed?

Glaucoma usually cannot be self-judged and the diagnosis should be made by an ophthalmologist. If glaucoma has progressed to the middle and late stages it is easy to diagnose, but the visual function (vision, visual field) has been severely irrecoverable damage, it is better to diagnose at an early stage, early detection and treatment is the key to prevent glaucoma blindness. Many patients with early chronic glaucoma do not have any conscious symptoms and are not easy to detect, and 1/2 of glaucoma patients do not know they have the disease. Therefore, in order to prevent the disease before it happens, once the unexplained headache, dizziness, eye swelling, “rainbow” around the lights, blurred vision, dryness, fatigue, etc., you need to go to the hospital immediately, never take painkillers or tranquilizers without permission, so as not to temporarily reduce the symptoms and cover up the disease, causing misdiagnosis, resulting in serious consequences. Some patients with suspected glaucoma cannot be diagnosed in one examination and need to be reviewed for a long time to track and observe their visual acuity and optic nerve, just like a suspected thief. Once the optic nerve damage is detected, the patient with suspected glaucoma can be diagnosed and must be treated actively.
