The key to Alzheimer’s disease prevention and treatment is early diagnosis and early treatment. Once Alzheimer’s disease is diagnosed, most patients need drug treatment, and although drug treatment cannot reverse the cognitive function of patients, it can slow down the rate of cognitive function decline, improve patients’ symptoms and slow down the disease process. 1, cholinesterase inhibitors: mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease can be treated with cholinesterase inhibitors, there are four kinds of cholinesterase inhibitors available, including donepezil, galantamine, lisdexamfetamine and carboplatin; as the disease progresses, patients with moderate to severe dementia can be given high doses of cholinesterase inhibitors for treatment. The principle of drug treatment is to start with small doses and gradually increase the dosage, and pay attention to the occurrence of adverse drug reactions. 2.NMDA receptor antagonist: For patients with moderate or severe dementia who are already taking cholinesterase inhibitors, the combination therapy with memantine can be added, which can effectively improve cognitive function and daily living ability. This drug has a better safety profile and does not increase the incidence of adverse drug reactions compared to the use of cholinesterase inhibitors alone. 3, other drugs: such as calcium antagonist nimodipine, brain metabolism fugitive piracetam, oracetam, ginkgo biloba extract, and brain protein hydrolysate, vitamin E, etc., the clinical efficacy is still controversial, and can be applied as an adjunct according to the condition. In addition, China’s self-developed new drug for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, “mannosuccinic acid (GV-971)”, has successfully completed clinical phase 3 trials. The results showed that GV-971 met the expectations in the main efficacy indicators of cognitive function improvement, with significant statistical and clinical significance. This drug is an oligosaccharide compound derived from marine organisms, and it is foreseen that this drug will be a milestone in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to the above drugs for improving cognitive function, the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease also requires enhanced life care, comprehensive rehabilitation measures, timely symptomatic treatment such as anti-anxiety and anti-depression, and prevention and treatment of complications such as infections, pressure sores and malnutrition.
