Generally umbilical ureteral malformation is not a very serious condition, but it needs to be corrected and treated by surgical procedures. Umbilical ureteral malformations can also be very painful if they are complicated by infection. Umbilical ureteral malformations can be formed when any section of the umbilical ureter is not closed, and are generally categorized into five forms: the umbilical sinus is formed when only the umbilicus is not closed, the diverticulum on the top of the bladder is formed when the bladder is not closed near the bladder, the residual lumen in the middle of the atresia on both sides is called the umbilical ureteral cyst, and the fistula from the umbilicus to the bladder is formed when the umbilical ureteral fistula is not closed at all. When there is only a small amount of mucosal tissue in the umbilicus, it is called umbilical velvet, of which umbilical ureteric cyst and umbilical ureteric fistula are the more common clinical ones.
