How soon can you drink alcohol after appendicitis surgery

Usually, patients can drink alcohol in small amounts 1 month after appendicitis surgery. Most patients with appendicitis can undergo laparoscopic appendectomy under general anesthesia. This procedure is less invasive and the incision usually heals about 1 week after surgery, while the patient’s diet takes about 1-2 weeks to fully recover. Patients need to fast until they have deflated after surgery and are treated with anti-inflammatory therapy. Alcohol should never be consumed if cephalosporin antimicrobial therapy is applied, as it can cause a disulfiram reaction, which can be life-threatening in severe cases. Therefore, patients should not drink alcohol within 1 week of drug administration. After 1 month, the patient basically recovers and can drink in small amounts. However, special attention should be paid to the fact that alcohol is carcinogenic, so for the sake of health, patients should refrain from drinking alcohol. In addition, post-operative appendicitis patients need to eat as light as possible, avoid eating spicy and greasy food, can eat coarse grains to promote intestinal peristalsis, to keep the bowel movement smooth.
