Day surgery” treatment of varicose veins in the lower extremities

”Day surgery” is a medical platform that uses individualized Doppler ultrasound for precise preoperative localization and utilizes superior human and equipment resources to enable patients with varicose veins in the lower extremities to walk on the floor and leave the hospital for home within a few days after surgery. Main features: minimally invasive, convenient, safe and pleasant. According to the characteristics of the existing medical insurance in China (in some areas, outpatient care is not reimbursable and only inpatient care is reimbursed), there are two main models of “day surgery” used in our center: the first is that the patient is admitted on the first day, operated on the next day, and discharged on the next or third day, requiring a total of three days of hospitalization (no overnight stay in the hospital); the second is that the patient completes all preoperative procedures in advance in the outpatient clinic. In the second type, the patient completes all preoperative tests in the outpatient clinic, is admitted and operated on the first day, and is discharged on the same day or the next day, requiring a total of two days of hospitalization (also without an overnight stay). However, due to the high demands placed on the physician team, this treatment currently requires an outpatient appointment. As the only vascular surgery center in China that routinely performs “day surgery” in public hospitals, our center has treated more than 100 patients with varicose veins in the lower extremities with good results. How is the safety of day surgery guaranteed? ”Day surgery is very different from traditional “outpatient surgery”. Currently, more than 60% of all surgical procedures in the United States are performed on a day surgery basis. These include: thyroid lump surgery, mastectomy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, cardiac angiography, varicose vein surgery, prostate surgery, arterial balloon dilation stenting, vena cava filter implantation, hernia repair, appendectomy, and more. Medical centers that perform day surgery are generally equipped with a more detailed pre-operative evaluation process, more advanced operating room conditions and equipment, more specialized and experienced surgeons and anesthesiologists, a more scientific access process, and a better post-operative follow-up system than traditional large hospitals. As a result, it is now internationally recognized that day surgery is significantly better than traditional inpatient surgery in terms of overall safety, faster post-operative recovery, and better value for money. Low-cost medical care comes at the cost of overmedication and high complication rates. (1) Pre-operative evaluation: The attending surgeon of the surgery will evaluate the patient’s general condition in detail, and the anesthesiologist will fully communicate about the patient’s basic condition and possible surprises before the surgery. Since the red tape associated with inpatient surgery is avoided, there is ample time for communication between the doctor and patient. Once a patient is found to be accompanied by severe cardiopulmonary disease, the patient will be advised to be transferred to the general inpatient process. (2) Surgical conditions: A state-of-the-art, modern operating room is the core of a day surgery medical facility. To ensure faster patient recovery after surgery, the operating rooms are equipped with a variety of surgical equipment and instruments that are more advanced and stable than those found in traditional hospitals. (3) Doctors: Most day surgery requires more minimally invasive surgical techniques in order to achieve therapeutic results. Post-operative safety also places high demands and standards on anesthesiologists. Therefore, the team of doctors and anesthesiologists contracted for day surgery is composed of specialists with high standards of medical care.
