What are the latest treatments for uveitis

The latest treatment for uveitis is the use of biologics such as adalimumab. Uveitis is a common disease in ophthalmology, mostly related to autoimmune reaction, commonly known as inflammation caused by the body’s immune system dysfunction, which attacks the healthy uveal tissue inside the eyeball. Patients with uveitis are routinely treated with hormonal medications, such as oral prednisone acetate tablets, which can inhibit the immune response and reduce inflammation, or with immunosuppressants, such as tacrolimus, if the side effects of the hormonal medications are not tolerated. A few patients are due to infections, and need to be treated with anti-infective drugs, such as oral ribavirin for viral infections and cephalosporin for bacterial infections. If the above treatments are not effective, or if the patient is unable to tolerate the above treatments, newer biologic treatments, such as adalimumab, are also available, but they are more costly. The patient must be regularly reviewed during the drug treatment, and when the condition improves, the use of the drug should be gradually reduced under the guidance of the doctor until the drug is discontinued, rather than suddenly stopping the drug, otherwise it will lead to recurrence of the disease.
