Abnormal diastolic function of the left ventricle of the heart and how to treat it

Abnormal left ventricular diastolic function of the heart may be associated with physiologic factors such as increasing age, or with pathologic factors such as hypertension and coronary artery disease. Patients can be treated with general therapy and medication.
1. Increasing age: Increasing age will lead to myocardial aging and a gradual decrease in ventricular diastolic function. In general, this condition does not require special treatment, but can be treated by resting more and avoiding emotional excitement or overexertion.
2. Hypertension: Increased myocardial load in hypertensive patients may lead to abnormal ventricular diastolic function. Patients can use beta-blockers such as propranolol to reduce heart rate and improve ventricular diastolic function. Patients also need to use nifedipine, captopril and other antihypertensive drugs according to the doctor’s instructions, to control the blood pressure at the normal level and control the development of the disease.
3. Coronary artery disease: Coronary artery disease may lead to myocardial hypoxia and ischemia and abnormal ventricular diastolic function, and patients can improve ventricular diastolic function through the use of drugs such as verapamil and other non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers.
In addition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, restrictive cardiomyopathy and other conditions can also appear abnormal left ventricular diastolic function, it is recommended that patients seek medical attention as early as possible to clarify the cause of the disease, under the guidance of the doctor to use drugs.
