Chenpi efficacy effects side effects and contraindications

Chen Pi has the efficacy of regulating qi and strengthening the spleen, drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness and resolving phlegm by drying dampness). The side effects and contraindications of Chen Pi are not clear at present.
Chenpi is pungent, bitter and warm in nature; it belongs to the spleen and lung meridians. It is mainly used in the treatment of vomiting, eructation (hiccups), cough with cold phlegm, chest paralysis (chest tightness and pain), distension of the epigastrium (stomach and abdomen), vomiting with little food and coughing with much phlegm.
Clinically, Chen Pi is often used together with Codonopsis, Atractylodes macrocephala and Poria to treat stomach and epigastric distension caused by deficiency of spleen and stagnation of qi, loss of appetite, loose stools, or vomiting and diarrhea.
