Why can’t I open my mouth when my gums suddenly swell and bleed?

Suddenly swollen and bleeding gums and inability to open your mouth are actually three symptoms; swollen and painful gums, bleeding gums and limited joint mobility.
When this happens, it is important to determine if all three conditions are caused by the same factor. If they are caused by the same factor, it is more likely that there is an infection in the mouth and that the infection has progressed to a more serious stage. If they are caused by different factors, a more in-depth examination needs to be completed.
