Precautions after varicose vein surgery of the lower extremities

  1.If the stitches are not removed in the hospital, then the subsequent removal time is: small incisions in the lower limbs can be removed in 14 days. Please come to our department for medication change at an interval of 3-5 days before stitch removal (Please come to our department for medication change and stitch removal from 7:45-8:00 Monday to Saturday), or you can change medication and remove stitches at the local hospital.  2. It is recommended to wear elastic socks (medical compression band, please purchase them after measurement at the nursing department) during the day, divided into those with length up to the knee joint (short socks) and those up to the root of the thigh (long socks), please choose the appropriate socks according to the specific measurement. Please do not wear socks at night. As long as you are resting in bed, you do not need to wear elastic socks.  3. When sleeping or resting during the day, please raise the lower limbs slightly, with the toes above the nose (i.e., the lower limbs are above the plane of the heart). This promotes venous blood return and the elimination of swelling in the lower limbs.  4. It is important to check the condition of blood system regularly: platelets, blood fibrinogen, blood lipids, blood viscosity, INR, etc. And according to the examination results, the corresponding treatment can be carried out to prevent the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis and superficial venous inflammation and reduce the viscosity of blood, which can also prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.  5, light diet, drink more water, and eat less high-fat food to help reduce the viscosity of the blood.  6.Protect the skin, please do not use too hot water when bathing, do not use rough towels to prevent damage to the skin and cause infection. Generally, 2 days after the removal of stitches, you can take a shower, and do not scrub the incision site with force.  7.If you have tinea pedis, please treat it early.  8.A week after discharge, please come to our vascular surgery outpatient clinic for follow-up consultation.
