Is total cholesterol 5.8 high?

The ideal total cholesterol level for normal adults is 2.83 mmol/L-5.20 mmol/L. Therefore, total cholesterol of 5.8 mmol/L is a high state and requires active lifestyle habits and other adjustments. Patients with high total cholesterol may be related to poor daily living habits. Patients usually have less exercise, are sedentary, and eat fatty foods. Patients are advised to actively improve their bad habits, reduce weight and increase exercise. It is recommended to replace animal oil with vegetable oil and eat nuts and legumes in moderation, which can effectively reduce the total cholesterol level in blood. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits to promote metabolism. If a patient’s total cholesterol continues to rise, he or she needs to be actively examined at a hospital to rule out other pathological factors, such as abnormal liver function, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, etc. If such causes are found, the relevant diseases should be actively treated and medications should also be taken to control the elevated total cholesterol.
