How long does it take to recover from retinal detachment surgery

The recovery time after retinal detachment surgery needs to be determined by the situation and cannot be generalized. For simple retinal detachment, the recovery time is short, about 1-3 months; for complex retinal detachment or a large detachment with late surgery, the recovery time after surgery is about 6 months or more. Retinal detachment is a common disease in ophthalmology and requires early surgical treatment, including external, internal and combined internal and external surgery, which can fill the patient’s vitreous cavity with gas or silicone oil to achieve long-lasting closure of the fissure. The recovery of vision after surgery takes a period of time and is related to factors such as the surgical approach, filling gas, and timing of the surgery, with individual differences. Patients need to maintain a prone or lateral position after surgery, avoid excessive eye fatigue after surgery, prohibit strenuous exercise, and avoid external impact on the eye. Patients need to eat more vegetables and fruits, keep a light diet, avoid chewing hard objects, and keep their bowels and urine open.
