How long it takes to regain vision after retinal detachment surgery depends on the site and extent of the retinal detachment and the surgical filler, and cannot be generalized. If the site of retinal detachment is in the periphery and the extent of the detachment is small, vision can be restored more quickly after surgery, usually within a month or so. If the retinal detachment is larger and involves the macula, the recovery of vision after surgery is generally poor, and some patients may not even recover. The purpose of surgery in these patients is to anatomically reset the retina so that the lesion does not continue to develop. After retinal detachment surgery, antibiotic drops should be used under the guidance of an ophthalmologist to prevent post-operative infection, and regular review should be done. In addition, patients should avoid rubbing their eyes with their hands and strenuous exercise, and avoid eating spicy and irritating foods after surgery.
