The location of fatty liver pain is in the right upper ribcage area or right side of the dorsal region. The pain tends to be distending in nature, as it is more common for it to be caused by enlargement of the hepatic pericardium and squeezing. There are two types of fatty liver: alcoholic fatty liver and non-alcoholic fatty liver. The common pathologic change in both alcoholic fatty liver and non-alcoholic fatty liver is fat deposition in the liver, and a fat content of more than 5% wet weight is called fatty liver. So having steatosis in the liver means that the liver cells are edematous or the liver is enlarged. Pain in fatty liver tends to be predominantly distending, and in a few sensitive people, the pain is followed by a pinprick pain on top of the distending pain, which is less common in fatty liver, but can be present. The pinprick-like pain is caused by inflammation of the liver involving the pericardium, causing pinprick-like pain. Pain in fatty liver means that there is enlargement of the liver, which is the main description of pain in fatty liver.
