Nowadays, the commonly used antiviral drugs in China are interferon and nucleoside analogues. The interferon class includes regular interferon and pegylated interferon; the nucleoside analogs include lamivudine, adefovir, entecavir, and telbivudine. The nucleoside analogs are available for all patients with hepatitis B who are amenable to antiviral therapy, but the interferon analogs are available for patients with transaminases greater than 2 times the upper limit of normal but less than 10 times the upper limit of normal. The price of the drugs in order from high to low is: 1, interferon class: pegylated interferon, common interferon; 2, nucleoside analogues: entecavir, telbivudine, lamivudine, adefovir. Route of administration: interferon class is subcutaneous injection, nucleoside analog class is oral. Adverse reactions: interferon analogs have more adverse reactions; nucleoside analogs have fewer adverse reactions. Absolute contraindications include pregnancy, history of psychiatric disorders (e.g., major depression), uncontrolled epilepsy, uncontrolled alcohol/drug abuse, uncontrolled autoimmune disease, decompensated cirrhosis, symptomatic heart disease, etc. There are no significant contraindications to nucleosides. All patients can choose according to the characteristics of the various drugs mentioned above, and it is best to discuss the decision with an experienced physician.
