Is one rabies immunoglobulin shot for life?

Human intramuscular rabies immune globulin is not carried for life and is effective for about one year. For patients who have received a full course of a valid pre-exposure or post-exposure vaccine, a special reinjection of rabies immunoglobulin is not necessary if no dog bite or minor injury occurs within one year. However, if a dog or animal bite occurs again after one year, a new full course of five doses of vaccine should be administered for preventive immunization according to the same principles as the first. Patients must prevent dog bites, and once bitten should promptly clean up the wound, choose the appropriate method according to the time of immunoglobulin injection, whether to continue rabies immunoglobulin injection, or clinical symptomatic observation.
