Is pituitary prolactin 833.2 high?

Prolactin 833.2 μg/L is considered high. Causes of increased prolactin include hypothalamic disease, pituitary disease, and primary hypothyroidism, which manifests as menstrual disorders and breast overflow.
When serum prolactin is >1.14nmol/L, i.e. 25μg/L, it is called hyperprolactinemia.
1. Hyperprolactinemia has the following etiologies.
(1) Hypothalamic diseases: such as craniopharyngioma, inflammation, etc.
(2) Pituitary disease: it is the most common cause of elevated prolactin, with pituitary prolactinoma being the most common. When prolactin >4.55nmol/L, i.e. 100μg/L, pituitary magnetic resonance examination should be performed to clarify whether pituitary microadenoma or adenoma exists.
(3) Primary hypothyroidism: increased thyrotropin-releasing hormone stimulates pituitary prolactin secretion.
(4) Idiopathic hyperprolactinemia: serum prolactin is mostly 2.73~4.55nmol/L.
(5) Others: such as polycystic ovary syndrome, long-term use of antipsychotics, antihypertensive drugs, etc. can cause mild or significant increase in serum prolactin.
Therefore, patients with increased prolactin should go to the hospital in time to find out the cause and treat it as soon as possible.
