Bitter mouth, dry mouth, sticky and greasy mouth are mostly caused by damp-heat in liver and gallbladder, and can be treated with Artemisia Scutellariae Biliary Clearing Tang.
Artemisia Scutellariae Scutellariae Bile Clearing Tang is composed of Artemisia annua, Scutellaria baicalensis, Citrus aurantium, Bamboo Roots, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Semen Xanthium, Poria, and Bijie San (Slippery Rock, Licorice, and Qing Dai).
In the formula, Artemisia annua clears the evil heat of Shaoyang; Scutellaria baicalensis is good at clearing gallbladder heat and drying dampness. Bamboo Root is good at clearing bile and stomach heat, resolving phlegm and stopping vomiting; Hovenia Citrus Husk is good at lowering qi and relaxing the middle, removing phlegm and eliminating lumps; Semixia is good at drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness and resolving phlegm by drying dampness), harmonizing stomach and lowering rebelliousness (regulating gastric qi and making the upwardly rebellious qi to descend); Chen Pi is good at regulating qi and resolving phlegm. Red Poria and Bijie San clear heat and eliminate dampness, and guide the evil out through the urine.
It has the effects of reconciling Shaoyang (treating external heat illnesses in which the evil is between the half-expression and half-limit), clearing bile and inducing dampness, harmonizing the stomach and resolving phlegm;
It is used for treating dampness-heat syndrome of Shaoyang; chills and fever like malaria, mild cold and severe heat, bitter mouth and diaphragmatic congestion, acidic and bitter water vomiting, or vomiting yellow salivation and mucus, or even dry vomiting and eructation (hiccups), distension and pain in the chest and ribs, and yellowish and scanty urine; the contraindications, precautions and adverse reactions are still not clear.
