What’s wrong with feeling swollen in the vulva?

The swelling of the vulva during pregnancy may be caused by the growth and development of the embryo in the uterine cavity resulting in pressure on the pelvic organs and poor blood circulation and return, or it may be related to swelling due to vulvar friction. The swelling can be relieved by proper bed rest and local hot compresses of magnesium sulfate. If vulvar swelling occurs during non-pregnancy, it may be related to vulvar inflammation or pelvic inflammatory disease, which requires a gynecological examination at the hospital. For vulvar swelling due to vulvar inflammation, gynecological lotion should be given for cleaning and then topical application of anti-inflammatory drugs for treatment. For vulvar swelling due to pelvic inflammation, pelvic physiotherapy and anti-inflammatory medication should be given for symptomatic treatment. When a woman’s vulva is swollen, she should also be careful to avoid rubbing her underwear to avoid rupture.
