Fire cupping therapy for psoriasis

       Fire cupping therapy is one of the important heritage of Chinese medicine, has long been widely used in folklore, with its better curative effect and health care functions, in the people generally formed the concept of “cupping a fire can when there is nothing to do, there is a disease to cure the disease health care”.  Fire cupping is a kind of congestion therapy, also known as bruising therapy, its medical principle is to use heat to expel the air inside the jar, forming negative pressure, using negative pressure suction cupping, walking jar, flash jar and other techniques, so that the local blood vessels dilate, blood and lymphatic fluid circulation accelerated, enhanced phagocytosis of white blood cells, improve the ability to resist disease and immune function, and promote metabolism, eliminate toxins from the body, improve the internal environment, thus producing therapeutic and health effects. According to Chinese medicine, cupping therapy can remove cold and dampness, dredge meridians, remove stagnation, move qi and blood, relieve swelling and pain, remove toxins and heat, and adjust the balance of yin and yang in the human body, relieve fatigue and enhance physical fitness, so as to achieve the purpose of helping to remove evil and cure diseases.  Psoriasis is a chronic and stubborn disease, commonly known as psoriasis, for which modern medicine lacks specific treatment methods, and the drugs used have large side effects, and are prone to recurrence and difficult to cure. Chinese medicine believes that this disease is caused by blood heat, blood dryness, blood deficiency, blood stasis, etc. During the development of the disease, it can feel or brew wind, cold, damp, heat, poison and other pathogenic evil, resulting in imbalance of yin and yang, stagnation of qi and blood in the skin and difficult to cure. Cupping therapy is an important supplementary therapy for psoriasis. In the clinical application, according to the principle of Chinese medicine’s evidence-based treatment and individualized treatment, our department selects acupoints according to the patient’s specific conditions, combines with acupuncture and moxibustion, and has one plan for each person, which can better remove wind, cold, damp, heat, poison and other pathogenic evils from the surface and even deeper tissues of the human body, so that yin and yang can be balanced and qi and blood can flow smoothly to achieve clinical cure.  Cupping therapy may not be suitable for every patient, and should be mastered under the guidance of a professional physician for indications (e.g., erythrodermic type is contraindicated), choosing the appropriate body position and muscle-rich areas (e.g., improper body position, movement, uneven bones, hairy areas and pregnant women’s abdomen and lumbosacral areas are not applicable). In addition, care should be taken to prevent burns or blisters caused by prolonged retention of the jar during treatment to avoid homomorphic reactions.
