Cataract surgery involves the removal of the cloudy lens and the implantation of a clear IOL, which under normal circumstances can last a lifetime.
Currently, cataract surgery mainly uses ultrasound-emulsification IOL implantation, which has the advantages of small incision, no pain, short operation time, no hospitalization, and quick recovery of vision. The current life expectancy of IOLs is 20-30 years, and the majority of patients who undergo cataract surgery are 60-70 years old and can basically use them for the rest of their lives. Even though there may be some changes in the lens at a later stage, due to age, patients do not have such high requirements for visual quality and can basically use it for the rest of their lives. So having one cataract surgery can basically benefit forever.
In addition, after surgery, patients should avoid spicy diet, eat easily digestible food, avoid smoking and alcohol, take rest and reduce activities within two weeks. Also do not strain to defecate to avoid the increase of IOP due to the increase of abdominal pressure.
