Patients who use their hands to dig their nose have hazards. First of all, frequent digging of the nose by hand may easily lead to the loss of nasal hairs in the nasal vestibule and erosion of the nasal mucosa, which is susceptible to infection by bacteria and viruses on the hands or in the air, resulting in redness and swelling of the skin of the nasal vestibule and the mucosa of the nasal cavity. If irritated by inflammation for a long time, boils may form inside the patient’s nasal cavity, which in severe cases may lead to facial swelling, eye swelling or even accompanied by intracranial infection. Repeated digging of the nostrils is especially likely to lead to breakage of the skin of the nasal vestibule, rupture and bleeding of the mucosa of the nasal cavity and the mucosa of the turbinates, which may even become cancerous after a long time and without healing. Therefore, patients must develop good habits and do not often dig their noses with their hands.
