What is peroxidase antibody

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies, also known as TPO antibodies, catalyze changes in thyroglobulin and tyrosine during T3 and T4 biosynthesis. tpo is closely associated with the development of autoimmune thyroid disease and is generally used to diagnose and monitor diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, autoimmune hyperthyroidism, and toxic diffuse goiter based on tpo levels. High thyroid peroxidase antibodies are an autoimmune thyroid disease that can cause Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and atrophic thyroiditis. Elevated thyroid peroxidase antibodies and thyroglobulin antibodies are important indicators for determining the cause of primary hypothyroidism and for diagnosing autoimmune thyroiditis.
