Which is better, hydrogen peroxide or iodophor?

There is no such thing as which one is better to use, there are respective indications. Hydrogen peroxide and povidone-iodine are both commonly used liquid antiseptic and disinfectant preparations in clinical practice. Hydrogen peroxide is more suitable for cleaning and treating contaminated wounds. Povidone-iodine is more suitable for the disinfection of body surface and mucous membranes before surgery or venipuncture operation. Hydrogen peroxide has strong irritation, hydrogen peroxide can be decomposed into water molecules and oxygen molecules after contacting pathogenic bacteria, rapidly oxidizing the pathogenic bacteria to make them inactive, so as to realize the bactericidal effect. It is often used as a rinse solution for contaminated wounds on the body surface or infected parts of the mouth. Povidone-iodine is a mixed solution of iodine and polyvinylpyrrolidone, which has staining properties and kills most bacteria, fungi, and protozoa. Because of its low irritation, it is often used for disinfecting treatments of mucosal tissues, including body surfaces, such as disinfecting the female genital tract. Patients are advised to follow their doctor’s instructions when using either of these disinfectant solutions.
