Herpes zoster is a skin disease caused by varicella-zoster virus infection. It usually presents clinically as clustered blisters surrounded by a red halo, with a unilateral band-like distribution of the rash, usually not exceeding the midline, and can be accompanied by varying degrees of pain, usually severe at night, which can affect sleep in severe cases. The clinical course of herpes zoster is mostly 2-3 weeks, but it may be longer for the old and frail. It can be treated with oral acyclovir, valacyclovir or famciclovir for 7-10 days, and the pain can be treated with mecobalamin tablets to nourish the nerves and relieve pain. Avoid drinking alcohol, spicy and other stimulating diets, and pay attention to rest, ensure sleep and avoid strain.
