What is a peritoneal nodule?

Peritoneal nodules are clinically classified as granulomatous diseases, mainly due to abnormal growths on the abdominal wall caused by malignant tumors, or due to inflammatory diseases. Peritoneal nodules are usually divided into two categories, one is the milder ones caused by inflammatory diseases, such as colitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, peritonitis and so on. These nodules can be treated with antibiotics, such as penicillin and cephalosporins. For peritoneal nodules caused by malignant tumors, surgery or radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and intraperitoneal thermoperfusion chemotherapy are usually required for treatment. Another group of peritoneal nodules may also be caused by abdominal tuberculosis and require anti-tuberculosis treatment.
