Pericoronitis usually heals in a few days

The time to heal from pericoronitis is directly related to the severity of the infection and generally takes 7-14 days. Pericoronitis generally refers to pericoronitis, which is an inflammation of the soft tissues around the crown of the tooth caused by the eruption of the wisdom tooth in the wrong position, the bone tissue or soft tissue blocking its normal eruption, and the bacteria taking advantage of the situation when the body’s resistance is low, resulting in the proliferation of bacteria. It is often accompanied by redness, swelling, and pain of the gums around the wisdom tooth, and the pain can be radiated to the head and face, and some patients have fever, and can lead to restricted mouth opening and loss of appetite. Wisdom tooth pericoronitis can be treated with local pericoronial rinsing, followed by antibiotics to fight infection, which may take about 1 week for the infection to be basically controlled and the symptoms to disappear. In severe cases, the infection may become localized and may lead to the spread of the infection, requiring incision and drainage if necessary, and the healing time will be extended, usually about 2 weeks. Once wisdom tooth pericoronitis occurs, it should be treated actively to prevent the spread of infection. After the inflammation has disappeared, it should be removed as soon as possible at a dental clinic to prevent recurrence of pericoronitis.
