Hyperthyroidism is generally not treated with bloodletting therapy. Bloodletting therapy is a treatment method of Chinese medicine, which has the effect of opening the orifices to remove heat, subduing swelling and relieving pain (eliminating swelling and pain), opening the channels and activating the collaterals, and regulating qi and blood, and it needs to be used by a professional Chinese medicine doctor through the identification of Chinese medicine. It is not generally used in the treatment of hyperthyroidism in clinical practice. There are three treatments for hyperthyroidism, including anti-thyroid medication, radioactive iodine treatment and surgery. 1. Antithyroid medication is suitable for patients with mildly enlarged thyroid gland, including methimazole, etc. The treatment usually takes about one and a half years, and the thyroid function needs to be monitored regularly to adjust the dosage of antithyroid medication in the course of treatment. 2. Radioactive iodine treatment is suitable for patients with moderate enlargement of the thyroid gland or recurrence of hyperthyroidism. Some patients may change to hypothyroidism after radioactive iodine treatment, and then take levothyroxine sodium tablets for alternative treatment. 3. Surgical treatment is suitable for patients with malignant tumor of the thyroid gland and respiratory difficulties caused by the compression of the trachea by the enlarged thyroid gland. Therefore, bloodletting therapy is not recommended for hyperthyroidism. It is recommended to consult an endocrinologist for guidance on treatment.
