Difference between xpert and tspot

TB xpert is a molecular biology testing technology for rapid detection of tuberculosis bacilli, while tspot is a method of using tuberculosis-specific antigens to determine whether a patient is infected with tuberculosis bacilli through enzyme-linked immunospot technology. The two technologies differ in many aspects, such as the content of the test, the sensitivity, and the degree of difficulty of the operation, and so on. 1. Detection content: tuberculosis xpert can be obtained directly from the patient’s sputum, so as to make judgment on tuberculosis disease. In contrast, tspot test is more suitable for latent tuberculosis patients, positive indicates the presence of tuberculosis-specific T cells in the body, which need to be combined with other indicators to confirm the diagnosis of tuberculosis disease. 2. Sensitivity: xpert test has high sensitivity, but it is more difficult to extract bacillus specimens and extrapulmonary tuberculosis samples during sampling, which is easy to have false-negative situation, whereas tspot test mainly adopts peripheral blood, which doesn’t need to carry bacillus specimens, and it has certain advantages in the diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. 3. Difficulty of operation: the operation mode of xpert test is more complicated, with high professional requirements, and the safety level of the experiment should also reach a certain standard, so as not to affect the accuracy and sensitivity of the test. On the other hand, the operation of tspot test is relatively simple, and it is unlikely to cause false negatives. It can be seen that TB xpert and tspot are two different types of tests, and patients can choose between them under the guidance of their doctors, so as to confirm the diagnosis of the disease as early as possible, and then carry out targeted treatment according to the results of the test.
