What does diffuse glioma mean?

Diffuse glioma is a type of glioma, which is a malignant tumor of the central nervous system and originates from glial cells. Gliomas generally include astrocytomas, oligodendroglial cell tumors, and ventricular meningeal tumors. Among them, astrocytomas can be classified into five types according to pathological features, and diffuse astrocytoma is a common one. The average survival of diffuse astrocytoma after surgery is usually 6-8 years, and it can progress to mesenchymal glioma with a tendency to transform into glioblastoma. Glioblastoma has a poorer prognosis and survival may be only a few months. Overall, diffuse astrocytoma is a malignant tumor originating in the central nervous system, and such patients are advised to seek prompt medical attention and treatment under the guidance of a physician to maximize their prognosis.
