Is it normal for the vaginal opening to turn white?

The whitening of the vaginal opening is usually an abnormality, mostly related to vulvar leukoplakia and vulvovaginitis. Under normal circumstances, the color of the vaginal opening is light pink, but as women age or after childbirth, the light pink color may deepen to dark pink. The white color of the vaginal opening is mainly related to the following reasons: 1. Vulvar leukoplakia: also known as vulvar dystrophy, vulvar white lesions, etc. It belongs to vulvar hypopigmentation disease. The cause of the disease is not yet completely clear, but may be related to autoimmunity, changes in estrogen levels, genetics and local chronic stimulation. Local chronic stimulation includes frequent scratching of vulvar skin, repeated rubbing of the pubic area, or the vulva being in an airless and humid environment for a long time. The typical symptom of this disease is the appearance of hypertrophic white patches or plaques of different sizes, numbers and shapes on the vulva, often accompanied by itching and burning sensation on the vulva. In the early stage, medication can be used; for those with severe symptoms or ineffective medication, physiotherapy can be used; for those with advanced lesions that are too large, have atypical hyperplasia or have the possibility of malignant transformation, surgical removal is required. In addition, the vast majority of vulvar dystrophy in adolescent females can heal on their own; 2. Vulvodynia or vaginitis: vaginal inflammatory secretions stimulate the vaginal opening and trigger whitening. Attention should be paid to the nature of the vaginal discharge and whether there is local itching, burning pain and other discomfort. If there is an abnormal increase in discharge, odor, accompanied by itching and burning sensation, promptly go to the hospital for routine examination of the leucorrhoea to determine the pathogen and then treat it symptomatically.
