The voice will generally recover on its own in a few days

Hoarseness is caused by inflammation and congestion and edema of the vocal cords or throat, and is usually related to cold and flu, speaking too loudly or talking too much. The recovery time may vary depending on the cause of the patient’s illness. If hoarseness is caused by drinking or singing, it usually returns to normal after 2-3 days of rest; if it is caused by acute throat inflammation, anti-infection treatment with antibiotics is needed, and it usually returns to normal in about 1 week. In addition, patients with hoarseness should pay attention to avoid spicy, greasy and other stimulating foods such as chili, ginger, hot pot, etc. They can eat more vegetables and fruits containing more vitamins, such as spinach, apples, carrots, etc. They should also pay attention to drinking more water and avoiding loud or high voice shouting. However, if the patient’s symptoms have not recovered after 2 weeks, a laryngoscopy at the ENT department is needed to rule out conditions such as vocal cord polyps.
