A swollen knee with a bulge from a fall may be due to a hematoma caused by a rupture of a small subcutaneous blood vessel, which may have led to a meniscus injury, and may have caused a knee fracture. Treatment includes non-surgical and surgical treatments.
1. Subcutaneous hematoma: after a knee fall, the small subcutaneous blood vessels may rupture and cause a subcutaneous hematoma to appear as a bulge, the patient first needs to limit the activities of the knee joint, and at the same time ice and elevate the affected limb, to promote the contraction of the small blood vessels and reduce the edema; 72 hours later, you can use a hot towel or a hot salt bag to apply hot compresses, and at the same time, with the massage and heat therapy to promote the repair of trauma.
2. Meniscus injury: after the knee fall may lead to meniscus injury bulge, the patient needs to carry out magnetic examination of the knee, if the meniscus injury is relatively light, the patient can be fixed in a plaster or brace, and at the same time oral glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate and other drugs to promote the repair; more serious damage to the patient needs to be in the arthroscopy of the meniscus repair.
3. Fracture: more serious injury may lead to fracture caused by bulging, the patient needs to carry out X-ray examination of the knee joint, if the fracture line is relatively good, can be given to manipulation, plaster fixation and other treatments; if the fracture line will be relatively poor, usually need to carry out surgical incision reduction and internal fixation treatment. Fracture patients can be sedated mannitol and other drugs to reduce swelling.
If the patient’s symptoms are serious, or if the symptoms do not improve, the patient should go to the hospital in time for treatment. All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor, avoid self-medication.
