How is allergic rhinitis treated?

Allergic rhinitis is a disease caused by inhalation of external allergens with sneezing, nasal itching, runny nose and nasal congestion as the main symptoms. The onset of the disease is seasonal or perennial due to the seasonal increase or decrease or persistence of allergens. As with allergic asthma, there is often a clear genetic allergy. The disease may be accompanied by itching of the conjunctiva, palate, and external auditory canal during episodes of fashion. The incidence of allergic rhinitis is increasing year by year in China and is likely to develop into allergic diseases such as asthma if proper and timely treatment is not taken. Repeated attacks of allergic rhinitis and asthma can seriously affect people’s normal life, work and study, lead to growth and development disorders in children, and can gradually evolve into chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or pulmonary heart disease, which seriously endangers people’s health. Allergic diseases first need to identify the allergens causing the disease. Allergen screening is the first step in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases, and once the allergen is identified, appropriate measures can be taken to avoid exposure. Symptomatic medications for allergic rhinitis include nasal glucocorticoids, antihistamines, anti-leukotrienes, chromogranins, and decongestants. However, the epidemiology of recent years has shown that the application of a large number of drugs has not changed the trend of a continuous increase in the incidence of allergic rhinitis, and there is no long-term assessment of the side effects of their long-term continuous use! Standardized specific immunotherapy, also known as desensitization, is recommended by the WHO as “the only allopathic treatment with the potential to cure allergic diseases” and can fundamentally improve the immune function of the body. Standardized desensitization treatment at an early stage can significantly reduce or even completely relieve patients’ allergic symptoms, gradually reduce or even completely eliminate the use of allopathic drugs, and prevent new allergic symptoms and aggravation of the disease, and the efficacy of the treatment can continue long after it is terminated. The new sublingual specific immunotherapy, which is a new type of drug delivery method, is a new treatment for allergic diseases (allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, allergic dermatitis, etc.) that has been advocated in recent years. SLIT has a high safety profile and no fatalities have been reported so far; it is easy to administer and is not restricted by time and place. It can be used safely at home and in travel; it can be stored at room temperature without refrigeration; it can be administered gently without injections and is especially suitable for pediatric patients. The drug treatment is now the dominant way of medication, immunotherapy is the treatment for the root of the disease symptomatic plus causal gradually become a trend in the treatment of allergic diseases, and patient education is the guarantee of the successful implementation of this system, so allergic rhinitis is not drug-free, through standard treatment can achieve good control or even cure!
