Does lung cancer come back after five years

Lung cancer is at risk of recurrence after five years. Lung cancer is a malignant tumor belonging to the lungs, and the main treatment is based on surgical resection. Clinically, five-year survival time is commonly used to assess the treatment effect of patients. With early and timely detection, the survival period of patients can be appropriately prolonged after surgical resection, and the five-year survival rate can reach more than 90%. For non-small cell lung cancer, the 5-year survival rate of stage I patients is about 70%, among which, the 5-year survival rate of stage IA patients is more than 80%, and the median survival period is close to 10 years; for stage II patients, the 5-year survival rate is about 40%; for stage III patients, the 5-year survival rate drops to about 15%; and for stage IV patients, the 5-year survival rate is only less than 5%, and the median survival period is only 7 months. After surgical treatment of lung cancer, patients should pay attention to strengthen follow-up, regular chest CT and tumor cell marker test, as well as early detection of lung cancer recurrence and timely treatment. At the same time, it is necessary to control such risk factors that may lead to the development of lung cancer, such as quitting smoking, strengthening respiratory protection, and avoiding exposure to toxic substances.
