Children born to hepatitis B mothers need to be vaccinated against hepatitis B. This is because vertical mother-to-child transmission is the main mode of hepatitis B transmission. Infants are best immunized with a combination of human hepatitis B immune globulin and hepatitis B vaccine within 12 hours of birth. The hepatitis B vaccine is the best measure to interrupt the transmission of hepatitis B virus from mother to child. 200 U of hepatitis B immunoglobulin is administered within 12 hours of birth, along with a 10 μg recombinant yeast or 20 μg CHO hepatitis B vaccine, followed by a second and third dose of hepatitis B vaccine at 1 and 6 months intervals, respectively.
