Stomach Yu point is an acupoint of the foot solar bladder meridian and is located in the dorsal spine area, 1.5 inches away from the posterior midline and below the spinous process of the twelfth thoracic vertebra. Acupuncture of Stomach Yu point can externally dissipate the heat of the stomach and internal organs in the bladder meridian, and is used to treat spleen and stomach disorders such as stomach pain, vomiting, bowel sounds, abdominal pain, emaciation, excessive eating and easy to starve, etc. It can also be used to improve the function of the intestines and stomach and alleviate gastrointestinal discomforts by massaging and moxibustion of the Stomach Yu point. The Stomach Point is often used in conjunction with the Stomach Point and Liangqiu Point to treat stomach pain. Since the spinal nerves in the back are more abundant, straight stabbing is prone to injure the spinal cord and nerves, so oblique stabbing is often used. Acupuncture should be performed by a professional Chinese medicine practitioner and should not be done on one’s own in order to prevent adverse effects.
