The best way to detect stomach cancer at an early stage is to perform gastroscopy

I was talking to a friend today about the topic of stomach cancer. My friend’s father has a history of stomach cancer and has been operated for 7 years. My friend has changed his lifestyle: he quit smoking and drinking, stopped eating barbecue and high-salt food, and had a gastroscopy to rule out stomach cancer, but he is still worried about stomach cancer and is always asking about better ways to diagnose stomach cancer at an early stage than gastroscopy. Honestly, I don’t know any better way to diagnose stomach cancer in early stage than gastroscopy. Gastric cancer has become a common digestive tract tumor in China. Since there is no obvious symptom in the early stage of gastric cancer, most gastric cancer patients have been diagnosed in the middle and late stage, and nowadays, comprehensive treatment based on surgery has become the mainstream treatment method. According to the data in Shanghai, China, the diagnosis rate of early gastric cancer is very low, the diagnosis rate of stage 1 is only 4.1%, 21.8% of stage 2, and 74.1% of stage 3 to 4 (which is often referred to as middle and late stage by doctors). At present, the 5-year survival rate of gastric cancer patients in general hospitals in China is 30% after surgery, and that in specialized hospitals is about 50%, while the survival rate of 5 grandmothers after surgery for early gastric cancer can be as high as 97%. How to improve the early diagnosis rate of gastric cancer and reasonable comprehensive treatment is still the direction that clinicians strive for. At present, most patients have resistance to gastroscopy, but in fact, painless gastroscopy has been carried out in most hospitals now. It is almost painless and all the patient has to do is to sleep and the examination has been finished with almost no risk. Although there are many studies on gastric cancer and the risk factors for the development of gastric cancer have been recognized, it is especially important to improve the diagnosis rate of gastric cancer in the early stage. Due to the lack of special clinical manifestations in the early stage of gastric cancer, which only manifests as indigestion symptoms such as acid reflux, belching upper abdominal pain, it is easy to be ignored by patients. Personally, I believe that the effective way to detect and diagnose gastric cancer in early stage is to perform gastroscopy and diagnose gastric cancer through gastroscopy biopsy of pathological tissue. Which groups of people need gastroscopy? 1. General population over 40 years old. Both men and women should undergo gastroscopy once. If there are positive findings (ulcers, polyps, etc.), they should be reviewed regularly after treatment. 2, First-degree relatives with gastric cancer, people with family history of gastrointestinal cancer can advance the age of initial examination to 40 or even 35 years old. 3 . Patients with bad habits such as smoking, alcoholism, irregular diet, high-salt diet, overeating or big fish and meat, love of pickled food and barbecue, and stomach ulcer, etc. 4, patients with dyspepsia, such as stomach discomfort, frequent epigastric pain, acid reflux, belching, fullness, etc. 5.Patients with abdominal CT finding thickening and abnormality of stomach wall, and those with elevated carcinoembryonic antigen tumor markers in biochemical examination. Early detection and diagnosis of gastric cancer is a prerequisite for every gastric cancer patient to get the best treatment effect.
