The operation of giving fluids to the elderly mainly includes drawing gastric fluid with a syringe, injecting fluids and flushing the gastric tube.
For those who cannot eat on their own and have difficulty in swallowing, they usually adopt transnasal gastrostomy tube or transoral gastrostomy tube to inject fluids for nutritional support. Before injecting fluids, the head of the bed is elevated, and a syringe should be used to pump back the gastric fluid to observe whether the gastrostomy tube is in the stomach and whether it is smooth, and then a small amount of warm boiled water should be injected to lubricate the tube, and then fluids should be injected slowly, and then a small amount of warm boiled water should be injected to flush the tube at the end.
When injecting fluid, the amount of fluid injected each time should be controlled within 200 ml, the temperature should preferably be controlled at 38~40℃, and the interval should be more than 2 hours. After feeding, the end of the gastric tube should be reflexed to prevent air from entering and causing gastric distension and food reflux.
When the elderly need to fight the flow of food, should be standardized under the guidance of the doctor to avoid adverse consequences.
