The thyroid gland does not age quickly after thyroidectomy. The thyroid gland secretes thyroxine, also known as T3, T4 and TSH, in the body to adjust the body’s hormone levels. If you monitor low hormone levels after thyroidectomy, you can take oral thyroxine tablets for supplementation, and you need to be reviewed every 3 months in the early postoperative period. If the thyroid function decreases, it means that the oral medication is not enough and the dosage needs to be increased. If T3 and T4 increase, it means that the oral medication is too much and the dosage needs to be reduced so that the oral medication can maintain the normal thyroid level. The thyroid gland function is not related to the aging of the body. Generally, the thyroid gland needs to be removed from both sides only in the case of thyroid cancer. In the case of benign thyroid nodules, removal of one side of the thyroid gland is sufficient, and the opposite side of the thyroid gland can still secrete hormones to compensate after the surgery.
