If the symptoms of dizziness and headache are obvious, we can also add gentian bone and oyster to increase their effect of calming the liver and quenching the wind; if the symptoms of liver fire, bitter mouth and red face, irritability, we can also add gentian herb and Xia Gu Cao to strengthen the effect of clearing liver fire; if the symptoms of yin deficiency such as lumbago and back pain are obvious, we can also add Sheng Di, Fructus Lycii and He Shou Wu to nourish the liver and kidney. This formula is often used clinically for hypertension, acute cerebrovascular diseases such as cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage, or also for the treatment of patients with inner ear vertigo, a TCM condition belonging to hyperactivity of liver yang and upward disturbance of liver wind.
