Tianma is a herb more commonly used in clinical practice. It is sweet and flat in nature and enters the liver meridian, mainly with the functions of resting wind and relieving spasm, dispelling wind and pain, and pacifying the liver and subduing yang. Tianma can both dispel external wind and calm internal wind, so it can be used to treat wind-cold and damp paralysis, as well as headache, dizziness and tremors of the limbs caused by internal movement of liver wind. Tianma can also treat headaches caused by wind evils and is often used in combination with drugs such as Chuanxiong. In addition, asparagus can be used to treat hypertension and vertigo caused by hyperactivity of liver yang. However, there are some contraindications or precautions for tianma. Although tianma is moist and not particularly strong in dryness, it is after all a medicine for dispelling wind, so it can also deplete yin and blood, so patients with blood or yin deficiency should use it with caution, or with some yin and blood tonics to reduce such side effects.
