Cerebrovascular accident/stroke

What is stroke? Stroke is also known as “cerebrovascular accident”. Any cerebrovascular disease caused by obstruction or rupture of cerebral blood vessels, resulting in impaired cerebral blood circulation and brain tissue function or structural damage, can be called stroke. Strokes can be broadly classified into two categories, namely ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Ischemic strokes account for about 70% of all strokes and mainly include cerebral thrombosis and cerebral embolism. Cerebral thrombosis is caused by narrowing of the artery and the gradual formation of a thrombus in the lumen that eventually blocks the artery, while cerebral embolism is caused by a dislodged thrombus or other emboli entering the bloodstream and blocking the cerebral artery. In addition, there are some patients who do not have real blockage of cerebral vessels, but only temporary ischemia, which can also cause symptoms of transient brain damage, called transient ischemic attack, commonly known as “mini-stroke” or “mini-stroke”.      Hemorrhagic strokes account for about 30% of strokes and are divided into cerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage depending on the location of the hemorrhage. Cerebral hemorrhage, commonly called “cerebral hemorrhage,” is caused by a ruptured artery in the brain that spills blood into the brain tissue. Subarachnoid hemorrhage is a rupture of a blood vessel on the surface or at the base of the brain, and blood enters the subarachnoid space and brain pools, which contain cerebrospinal fluid.       Both ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke are serious threats to human survival and quality of life, cerebrovascular disease is one of the three major causes of death, the incidence of cerebrovascular disease in the adult population is 150-200 per 100,000 people, according to statistics, about 4.6 million people die of cerebrovascular disease each year, every 12 seconds there is a new incidence of stroke, every 21 seconds there is a person died of stroke. China is one of the countries with a high incidence of stroke, with about 2 million new cases and 1.5 million deaths per year. Cerebrovascular disease accounts for 15% of the total causes of death, and is in second place in the order of causes of death (accounting for the first cause of death of some urban residents), and is also the country with the largest number of patients with cerebrovascular disease in the world, with 6-7 million people now suffering from cerebrovascular disease and surviving About 3/4 of the survivors of cerebrovascular disease are incapacitated to varying degrees, leaving behind sequelae such as hemiplegia and mental retardation, and the direct medical costs of cerebrovascular disease in China amount to more than 20 billion RMB per year, while the indirect costs associated with cerebrovascular disease are even greater. Stroke has become a major threat to human health. With the obvious improvement of people’s living conditions and lifestyles, the accelerated pace of social activities and the approaching aging of the population, the incidence of stroke will continue to rise and the danger will become more and more serious, and the situation of prevention and treatment will be more severe.
