Lying down and suffocating may be caused by physiological factors, or it may be caused by pathological factors such as heart failure and chronic bronchitis.
1. Physiological factors: if the patient’s body is relatively fat, chest wall and abdominal fat excess, will affect the movement of respiratory muscles, so that the lungs are poorly ventilated to affect gas exchange. At the same time, patients because of excessive neck muscle fat, lying down can lead to respiratory obstruction, poor breathing, which leads to patients lying suffocated symptoms.
2. Pathologic factors:
(1) Heart failure: the patient’s heart loses the function of ejection and pumping of blood, which leads to blood stagnation in the lungs. The lungs are edematous, which affects their function of gas exchange. When lying down, the volume of returned blood increases, which aggravates the edema of the lungs and further reduces the function of gas exchange of the lungs, leading to the symptom that the patient is suffocating while lying down.
(2) Chronic bronchitis: Chronic bronchitis can easily lead to a decrease in arterial oxygen saturation, resulting in low partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide, and a decrease in the gas exchange function, leading to the symptom of suffocation while lying down.
If the symptoms of lying suffocated, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time, and actively cooperate with the doctor for treatment.
