Hazards of long-term catheter insertion: 1. Repeated urinary system infections. When the catheter is left in place for a long time, the secretions in the urethra may not be discharged in time, and bacteria may go backwards and enter the urethra or bladder through the urethra and cause infections, resulting in increased secretions from the urethra, pain in the urethra, pain in the small abdomen or repeated fever. 2. Bladder atrophy. When the catheter is left in place for a long time, the bladder is always in a state of emptiness, and over time, the bladder capacity is easily reduced and the bladder atrophies, and patients cannot hold urine, and the bladder capacity drops to 1/2 of normal or even lower. 3. Due to the obstruction of the urinary catheter, the secretion in the urethra flows out, followed by the swelling of bilateral epididymis, accompanied by obvious pain and fever symptoms. If the urinary catheter is not removed, epididymitis is repeated and not easily cured completely.
