There is no such thing as the best treatment for ankle ligament tear. Conservative plaster or brace immobilization or surgical treatment should be given according to the degree of ligament tear. If the ankle ligament tear is relatively mild, partial tear, without obvious ankle swelling and pain, and does not affect the stability of the ankle joint, it can be immobilized in a cast or brace for 2 to 3 weeks, with oral painkillers (ibuprofen capsules) and anti-swelling drugs (diosmin tablets), and avoiding early weight-bearing on the joint. Torn ankle ligaments that are not completely ruptured but show significant swelling, bruising, pain, and limitation of ankle joint movement, affecting the stability of the ankle joint, or complete rupture of the ligaments, should be treated surgically. Ligament reconstruction surgery can be performed for ligaments that cannot be sutured due to factors such as excessive damage. Once the diagnosis of ankle ligament tear is clear, you should follow your physician’s advice, take the most suitable way to treat it in time, and standardize the functional exercises.
