What is the meaning of bowel habit

The stool habit is a habit developed by the toilet, for example, many people wake up early in the morning after drinking a glass of water to go to the bathroom to defecate, many people also defecate once a day in the morning, the stool is usually soft, this is the stool habit of most people. Some people may have two bowel movements a day, such as once in the morning or once at night, and the shape of the stool may be paste or formed, and each person will have their own stool habits, which will stay with each person for many years. If this habit suddenly changes, for example, a single stool may become more than two to three times a day, a soft stool may suddenly become a watery stool or even a stool with blood or mucus. Or if the patient has a bowel movement every day and suddenly becomes constipated and only has a bowel movement once every two to three days, these are abnormalities in the patient’s bowel habits, which means that there may be some underlying disease in the colon. Patients are advised to look for changes in life and psychological factors on the one hand, and changes in dietary habits on the other. If these cannot be explained, stool tests and colonoscopy should be performed at the hospital to rule out any intestinal diseases.
