Adverse effects of Gentian Diarrhea Liver Pill are not clear, people with loose stools, the elderly and weak, pregnant women should be cautious, during the drug should not be taken at the same time to take tonic Chinese medicine. Guanmutong is toxic, the composition contains aristolochic acid, in recent years, domestic and foreign literature has reported that the aristolochic acid has nephrotoxicity, the State Drug Administration decided to cancel the medicinal standard of Guanmutong on April 1, 2003, and explicitly prohibited for patients with renal disease, pregnant women, newborns, and generally should not be used by children and the elderly. Gentian Liver Pill now uses Mutong instead of Guanmutong, and nephrotoxicity has not been reported.
